AARHUS, Denmark: Having sold anti-snoring devices from SnorBan for 15 years already, European distributor SnorBan DK has now added SomnoGuard oral appliances from Tomed to its range of products. Mandibular advancement devices, such as SnorBan and SomnoGuard, are clinically proven to be one of the most effective ways to resolve snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.
“SnorBan DK ApS was formed to help snorers and their bed partners to end the nights of disturbed and lost sleep and to help them return to peaceful nights together,” SnorBan DK owner Kristian Luplau told Dental Tribune Online. “We aim to supply our customers with quality products that meet specific medical needs and help doctors help their patients to overcome their health problems in a cost-effective way.”
In order to meet the needs of medical markets, SnorBan DK has now extended its range of sleep-assisting devices with the SomnoGuard appliances, for which it is the exclusive distributor in the Nordic countries.
SomnoGuard consists of an upper and a lower tray each with a hard outer shell and a thermoplastic inner part, making moulding quick and failsafe. The two-piece design allows advancement of the mandible of approximately 10 mm. Compared with one-piece appliances, this means greater advancement and makes the SomnoGuard device the preferred choice for treating sleep apnoea, Luplau explained.
Developed in 1994 in the US, the patented SnorBan appliance holds the mandible slightly forward, causing the trachea to open. By allowing air to move through unobstructed, the device eliminates vibration and minimises snoring. According to Luplau, SnorBan can be fitted and completed in a single dental appointment. The light and durable mouthpiece is individually shaped to the user’s dentition and is made of hypo-allergenic thermoplastic.
Clinical trials have found that thermoplastic mandibular advancement devices, such as SnorBan and SomnoGuard, helped to reduce snoring in patients by up to 80 per cent. In addition, the cost-effective devices have the advantages of high initial patient acceptance and comparable outcomes to custom-made devices.
